About this run route

Start / Finish

Start at Cragside Visitor Centre, finishing on Crozier Drive

Welcome to Cragside and a varied and stimulating 10k route set within the heart of this National Trust estate. With gradual inclines through forested footpaths and lakeside trails, this route provides an opportunity for runners to regularly experience the thrill of trail running set within the grounds of an iconic heritage property.

Starting at the Visitor Centre, the course will begin with a gentle circuit around Tumbleton Lake, easing runners in to a steady climb into the heart of the estate. Offering spectacular vistas of Cragside House and gardens as well as views right across the Coquet Valley, the route will meander through the craggy landscape offering runners a variety of scenery from rugged coniferous woodland, rich rhododendrons and dramatic rock formations. Levelling out at approx. 7.5k, the trail then encompasses  the historic Nelly’s Moss Lakes – created to hold the body of water once used to power Cragside House by hydroelectricity – taking runners on a steady descent back through the woodland trails, finishing at Cragside House. It is here runners can take in views across the chimney tops to the hills beyond or make their way back to the Tea Rooms for a well-earned refreshment.
